Environmental and economic perspective of waste-derived activators on alkali-activated mortars

Mariam Abdulkareem et al.

Summary: Alkali-activated mortars produced from chemically modified waste-derived activators have reduced emissions in climate change, fossil depletion, terrestrial acidification, and photochemical ozone creation formation compared to conventional counterparts, with potential cost savings up to 19%. This alternative shows promise in improving environmental performance by potentially reducing the need for conventional alkali-activators.

Diphasic investigation of the visco-elastoplastic characteristics of highly flowable fine mortars

Masoud Hosseinpoor et al.

Summary: The rheological properties of the lubrication layer between concrete and pumping pipe wall were investigated through experiments and simulations, showing that increasing fine sand content enhances the visco-elastoplastic properties of the mixtures. Empirical relationships between rheological properties and mini-slump flow values were established, and new models for evaluating lubrication layer materials were proposed.

Rubberized alkali-activated slag mortar reinforced with polypropylene fibres for application in lightweight thermal insulating materials

Shahin Rajaei et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of using crumb rubber and polypropylene fibre in alkali-activated slag mortars on the properties of concrete. The results showed that rubberized mixes reduced mechanical strength, while polypropylene fibre enhanced both mechanical strength and shrinkage resistance. The ecological and economic analysis revealed that rubberized mixes were more environmentally friendly and cost-efficient.

Optimization of mix proportion of alkali-activated slag mortars prepared with seawater and coral sand

Bai Zhang et al.

Summary: An innovative building material, SC-AAMs, prepared with seawater and coral sand, was proposed to effectively utilize marine resources for sustainable development in construction industry. Experimental results indicated that increasing alkali activator modulus and alkaline contents improved compressive and flexural strengths but affected setting time and drying shrinkage. The optimal mixture for SC-AAMs was determined to be M-s = 1.2, N/B = 4%, W/B = 0.45, and R-s = 100%. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analyses showed that the alkali-activated materials changed reaction hydrate products and improved interfacial microstructures.
