A Review of Indirect Tool Condition Monitoring Systems and Decision-Making Methods in Turning: Critical Analysis and Trends

Mustafa Kuntoglu et al.

Summary: The indirect tool condition monitoring systems provide a way to track the condition of cutting tools through various energy types, without direct intervention in the cutting zone. This study reviews the sensors commonly used in indirect tool condition monitoring systems and their correlations with tool wear over the past two decades, highlighting the limited research on tool condition monitoring systems in turning and the need for detailed analysis of measured variables such as tool wear and vibration. Tool condition monitoring is essential for the development of Industry 4.0 in machining industry, paving the way for future advancements.

The Effect of Ultrasonic Cleaning Upon Mechanical Properties of Metal Matrix Composites

Abdullah Aslan et al.

Summary: The study aims to produce composite materials by recycling metallic chips and investigate the effect of ultrasonic cleaning process on the consolidation behavior and mechanical properties of the chips. Spheroidal graphite cast iron was used as reinforcement material in tin bronze matrix system, and mechanical tests revealed that increasing ultrasonic cleaning time improves consolidation quality. This innovative approach of recycling waste metallic chips for producing high-quality machinery parts proves to be both economical and environmentally friendly.

The effects of harsh aging environments on the properties of neat and MWCNT reinforced epoxy resins

Abdullah Aslan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different harsh aging environments on the properties of neat and MWCNT reinforced epoxy resins, showing that acidic environments led to increased water absorption and decreased strength. Surprisingly, the strength of specimens aged in NaCl solution environment increased by 29%, contrary to previous literature. Additionally, MWCNT reinforcement was found to adversely affect the strength of the epoxy resin.
