Flood susceptibility prediction using four machine learning techniques and comparison of their performance at Wadi Qena Basin, Egypt

Bosy A. El-Haddad et al.

Summary: The study utilized four data mining/machine learning models to generate flood susceptibility maps, assessed the relationship between flood-influencing factors and flood distribution through different datasets and models, and found that the models provide reasonable accuracy in flood susceptibility mapping.

Flood susceptibility modelling using advanced ensemble machine learning models

Abu Reza Md Towfiqul Islam et al.

Summary: This study applied and assessed two new hybrid ensemble models, Dagging and Random Subspace (RS) coupled with Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Random Forest (RF), and Support Vector Machine (SVM) for modeling flood susceptibility maps at the Teesta River basin in Bangladesh. The models performed well in predicting flood occurrences and could help in reducing flood-related threats and implementing effective mitigation strategies in the future. The Area Under the Curve (AUC) of ROC was above 0.80 for all models, with the Dagging model showing superior performance compared to RF, ANN, SVM, RS, and benchmark models.

Synthetic geochemical well logs generation using ensemble machine learning techniques for the Brazilian pre-salt reservoirs

Lucas Abreu Blanes de Oliveira et al.

Summary: Geochemical logs are essential for hydrocarbon reservoir characterization, but in reduced logging operations in Brazilian pre-salt carbonate reservoirs, the geochemical tool is no longer acquired for cost reduction. This research develops synthetic geochemical logs using machine learning algorithms that can substitute actual logs with high confidence, providing quality data for formation evaluation. Robust models are trained for Al, Ca, Fe, Mg, Si, S, Ti, and Na, with R-2 above 0.70, and RMSE between 10(-2) to 10(-4), showing good agreement with acquired logs and general trends of the pre-salt formations.

Ensemble Boosting and Bagging Based Machine Learning Models for Groundwater Potential Prediction

Amirhosein Mosavi et al.

Summary: The study aims to evaluate four ensemble models for groundwater potential prediction, with RF model outperforming the others. Key contributing variables include topographic position index and valley depth. The predicted groundwater potential maps can assist water managers and policymakers in optimal freshwater exploitation.
