Essentiality of c-di-AMP in Bacillus subtilis: Bypassing mutations converge in potassium and glutamate homeostasis

Larissa Krueger et al.

Summary: Bacteria utilize nucleotide second messengers to respond to changing environmental conditions, with cyclic di-adenosine monophosphate (c-di-AMP) being an essential component. In addition to its role in potassium homeostasis, c-di-AMP also plays a crucial role in protecting against glutamate toxicity in Bacillus subtilis. The study identified a novel glutamate transporter (AimA) and highlighted the complexity of c-di-AMP signaling in bacteria.
