Analysis of green technology investment for Chinese waste electrical and electronic equipment processing enterprises under different subsidy modes

Wenhua Li et al.

Summary: The current subsidy mode in China has led to a significant increase in the dismantling capacity for WEEE, but has resulted in insufficient investment in green technologies for further processing. A study found that factors such as decision time interval, technology degree, technology achievement time, and investment cost all play a role in influencing green technology investment. Proposed reformed subsidy modes show potential in promoting green technology investment, with one specific mode performing better in terms of fiscal management and subsidy distribution equity. Numerical analysis on refrigerator and washing machine treatments in China demonstrated visible results on the impact of these subsidy modes.

Management of waste electrical and electronic equipment based on circular economy strategies: navigating a sustainability transition toward waste management sector

Abdolvahhab Fetanat et al.

Summary: In transitioning to a circular economy with sustainable waste management, the waste management sector's role shifts from a regulator to a facilitator, focusing on encouraging businesses to address all aspects of circular economy sustainability more efficiently. However, the sector lacks a hybrid method for sustainability assessment that aggregates the dimensions of circular economy strategies into a single summary indicator. The study proposes a fuzzy three-phase group multiple-criteria decision-making approach to integrate circular economy strategies for forming sustainability indices.

Quantifying used electrical and electronic equipment exported from ireland to west africa in roll-on roll-off vehicles

Kathleen McMahon et al.

Summary: This study presents the first comprehensive estimation of UEEE export shipments from Ireland to Nigeria, revealing that approximately 17,319 kg of UEEE are exported annually from Ireland, with around 1 in 5 vehicles carrying UEEE. The type and frequency of shipments indicate high demand for specific equipment in the destination country, suggesting opportunities for further research.

Relationship between economic growth and mismanaged e-waste: Panel data evidence from 27 EU countries analyzed under the Kuznets curve hypothesis

Bilal Boubellouta et al.

Summary: This study found an inverted U-shaped relationship between economic growth and mismanaged e-waste, as postulated by the environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis. There is a unidirectional causality relationship running from economic growth to uncollected and non-recycled/non-reused e-waste. Additionally, mismanaged e-waste increases with higher credit to the private sector.

A proposed sustainable and digital collection and classification center model to manage e-waste in emerging economies

Yigit Kazancoglu et al.

Summary: The study proposes an electronic waste collection and classification system to enhance sustainability in emerging economies, using GM(1,1) model for estimating the trend of collected electronic waste. It is found that the amount of electronic waste is increasing, causing environmental, social, and economic damage due to lacking digital technologies in the process. The originality lies in integrating data-driven technologies with sustainability in electronic waste management, which is a relatively new area of research.
