Climate change impact assessment on water resources underRCPscenarios: A case study in Mundau River Basin, Northeastern Brazil

Carolyne W. L. Andrade et al.

Summary: Climate models predict significant decreases in annual precipitation, increases in maximum and minimum temperatures, decreases in surface runoff, decreases in evapotranspiration, increases in potential evapotranspiration, and decreases in annual streamflow for the Mundau River Basin in Brazil under future climate change scenarios.

Evaluation of the TRMM product for monitoring drought over Paraiba State, northeastern Brazil: a trend analysis

Reginaldo Moura Brasil Neto et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the performance of TRMM-estimated rainfall data in monitoring meteorological drought behavior and spatiotemporal trends in Paraiba State. Results showed that TRMM accurately captured extreme rainfall patterns, indicating drier, longer-lasting, and more severe drought events in most of the state.

Monitoring meteorological drought in a semiarid region using two long-term satellite-estimated rainfall datasets: A case study of the Piranhas River basin, northeastern Brazil

Celia Soares de Brito et al.

Summary: Extreme weather events often have a serious impact on the quality of life and economy of the Brazilian semiarid region, where droughts are the main natural disaster. Satellite precipitation products, such as CHIRPS and PERSIANN-CDR, have been shown to be effective in monitoring meteorological drought in the region. These datasets are valuable complements to rain gauge-measured rainfall data and provide additional sources for hydrometeorological applications in the Piranhas River basin.

Modeling the impacts of future LULC and climate change on runoff and sediment yield in a strategic basin in the Caatinga/Atlantic forest ecotone of Brazil

Jose Yure Gomes dos Santos et al.

Summary: This study evaluated potential future changes in streamflow and sediment dynamics in the Tapacur ' a River basin in northeastern Brazil. Results showed significant increases in erosion under the pessimistic scenario, while lower sediment yields occurred under the optimistic scenario. Higher sediment yields have serious implications for reservoir siltation and storage reduction, despite higher flows found in some scenarios.

Future scenarios based on a CA-Markov land use and land cover simulation model for a tropical humid basin in the Cerrado/Atlantic forest ecotone of Brazil

Elias Rodrigues da Cunha et al.

Summary: The study aimed to analyze the future changes in land use and land cover in the native vegetation areas of the Cerrado/Atlantic forest ecotone in the Prata River basin. The results showed potential advancements in crop agriculture and decreases in wetlands, savannahs, riparian forests, seasonal semideciduous forests, and wet grasslands, which could lead to loss of biodiversity in the area.
