The development of mature gait patterns in children during walking and running

Margit M. Bach et al.

Summary: The study aimed to identify the developing maturity of walking and running in young children by assessing gait patterns and mechanical energetics. It was found that the degree of gait maturity does not always relate directly to the chronological age of the child, with the ability to run increasing with age but without the flight phase reaching 20% of the gait cycle.
