Effect of vapor pressure deficit on growth and water status in muskmelon and cucumber

Xiaoming Song et al.

Summary: The study found that different background VPD conditions affect the internal structure of muskmelon and cucumber, leading to improved water transport capacity to the leaf surface under LVPD conditions. This, in turn, helps avoid stomatal closure induced by atmospheric drought stress and enhances the gas exchange capacity of the leaf stomata, maintaining a high photosynthetic rate. Therefore, reducing VPD is essential for achieving high yield and productivity in greenhouse muskmelon and cucumber production.
