The Assessment of the Sewage and Sludge Contamination by Phthalate Acid Esters (PAEs) in Eastern Europe Countries

Olga Anne et al.

Summary: The study analyzed wastewater and sediment samples from city sewer systems of Lithuania, Poland, and Denmark to determine the sources and levels of phthalate acid esters (PAEs) contamination. Lithuania showed the highest contamination with DEHP, while Poland had the highest concentration of DMP. Further monitoring of PAEs in wastewater and sludge is recommended to reduce or predict potential risks to hydrobiots and human health.

Air pollution caused by phthalates and cyclic siloxanes in Hanoi, Vietnam: Levels, distribution characteristics, and implications for inhalation exposure

Hoang Quoc Anh et al.

Summary: The study investigated the contamination status and distribution characteristics of phthalic acid esters and cyclic volatile methyl siloxanes in indoor and outdoor air samples collected from chemistry laboratories, offices, and homes in urban areas of Hanoi, Vietnam. The results showed higher concentrations of the substances indoors compared to outdoors, indicating indoor emission sources are predominant. Positive correlations were found between total air concentrations of phthalates and siloxanes in indoor and outdoor air samples.

Summary: The study investigated the presence, migration, and health risks of phthalic acid esters (PAEs) in tap water, barreled water, and bottled water in Tianjin, China. Results showed high detection frequencies of PAEs, with DEHP having the highest concentration and positively correlated with storage time and temperature. The study also found that human carcinogenic risks of DEHP may reach the maximum acceptable level under certain conditions.
