Quantifying nuisance ground motion thresholds for induced earthquakes

Ryan Schultz et al.

Summary: This article discusses the nuisance from induced earthquake ground motions and quantifies felt thresholds for public perception. Through analyzing data from approximately 360 earthquakes, it was found that peak ground velocity tends to be the best predictor of a felt earthquake, and felt thresholds decrease with increasing earthquake magnitude.

Green, yellow, red, or out of the blue? An assessment of Traffic Light Schemes to mitigate the impact of hydraulic fracturing-induced seismicity

James P. Verdon et al.

Summary: This study discusses the implicit risk mitigation objectives of Traffic Light Schemes (TLSs) for hydraulic fracturing-induced seismicity, and finds that in most cases magnitude jumps are less than 2 units, one quarter of cases experience post-injection magnitude increases, and trailing event increases generally occur soon after injection.
