Restoring native forests from Pinus radiata plantations: Effects of different harvesting treatments on the performance of planted seedlings of temperate tree species in central Chile

Klaus N. Kremer et al.

Summary: This study conducted a landscape-replicated experiment in commercial exotic tree plantations in Chile to test the influence of different harvesting treatments on the early establishment of native tree species. The results showed that strip-cutting treatment had higher survival rates and growth performance for native tree species compared to clearcutting and unharvested control, suggesting that partial canopy removal is a suitable method for restoring native forests from exotic tree plantations.
