Compact, portable, laser induced fluorescence diagnostic for laboratory plasma sources

M. C. Paul et al.

Summary: With diagnostic groups being increasingly involved in experimental campaigns at remote facilities, there is a growing demand for portable plasma diagnostic systems. One such system is a portable LIF apparatus which eliminates the need for optical table, beam splitter, and optical chopper. By modulating the tapered amplifier current instead of physically modulating the laser output, this portable LIF system enables measurements of ion temperature, ion flow, and relative metastable ion density in two different remote experiments.

Characterizing the plasma-induced thermal loads on a 200 kW light-ion helicon plasma source via infra-red thermography

J. F. Caneses Marin et al.

Summary: The upgraded light-ion helicon plasma source in the Proto-MPEX linear plasma device allows for pulsed operation at up to 200 kW. This study focuses on reporting plasma-induced surface heat fluxes on the helicon window during high power operation and provides insights for the design of the upcoming material plasma exposure eXperiment (MPEX).
