Active control of resistive wall mode via modification of external tearing index

Yuling He et al.

Summary: This study investigates the modification of the external tearing index Delta ext' by magnetic feedback for controlling the resistive plasma resistive wall mode (RP-RWM). Different feedback coil configurations are found to reduce Delta ext' and stabilize the RWM, using either proportional or derivative control. The feedback modification of Delta ext' is generally independent of the inner layer resistive interchange index DR, with the perturbed magnetic energy dissipation in the outer region identified as the key physics reason for complex feedback-induced Delta ext'.
