Transcriptome-based single-nucleotide polymorphism markers between Pinus brutia and Pinus halepensis and the analysis of their hybrids

Naomi Houminer et al.

Summary: Natural hybridization between Pinus halepensis and Pinus brutia leads to vigorous growth, but efficient identification methods are lacking. A transcriptome database was established to provide 111,388 potential SNP markers, with 43 SNPs confirmed through multiple verification methods. Hybrids in three planted sites showed trunk volumes 2.9 to 1.2 times larger than neighboring Pinus brutia, with more pronounced growth in arid sites.
