Chemotaxonomic investigation of Apocynaceae for retronecine-type pyrrolizidine alkaloids using HPLC-MS/MS

Specialized plant metabolites from indolic and polyphenolic biosynthetic pathways in Wrightia religiosa (Teijsm. & Binn.) Benth. and Wrightia pubescens R. Br. (Apocynaceae)

Summary: Phytochemical investigation of Wrightia religiosa and Wrightia pubescens collected in Thailand revealed seven known compounds, all specialized metabolites from indolic and polyphenolic biosynthetic pathways. The compounds do not significantly contribute to the antioxidative properties of the plant extracts, and the extracts show no noteworthy anti-feedant response to insect pests. The ecological aspects are briefly addressed and discussed in the phylogenetic framework of the studied species.
