Observer study-based evaluation of a stochastic and physics-based method to generate oncological PET images

Summary: This study developed a stochastic and physics-based method to generate realistic oncological 2-D PET images for objective evaluation. The method was able to capture observed variabilities in tumor properties and generate clinically relevant tumor types. Results from a human-observer study with trained readers showed promising results and support the application of this method to PET imaging.

Summary: Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) is a non-invasive method for estimating intra-voxel tissue microarchitecture and reconstructing neural pathways in the human brain. The use of multi-tissue constrained spherical deconvolution (MT-CSD) has significantly improved resolution over traditional methods. This study demonstrates the promising potential of using deep learning with single shell data to estimate MT-CSD, showing high correlation and low errors compared to ground truth.
