Optical and structural properties of drop-cast PVA/PEG polyblends

Summary: This study characterized the drop cast films of PVA, PEG, and PVA:PEG (50:50) polyblend using SEM, FTIR, and Optical Absorption Spectroscopic Techniques. Changes in morphology and absorption maxima were observed, indicating the formation of H-bond between PVA and PEG in the polyblend. The value of indirect optical gap was found to be lower for the polyblend compared to pure components, suggesting an enhancement of disorder with the formation of polyblends.
