Contribution of Small RNA Pathway to Interactions of Rice with Pathogens and Insect Pests

Qin Feng et al.

Summary: Small RNAs (sRNAs) are classified into microRNAs (miRNAs) and small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) based on their origin, with miRNAs originating from single-stranded RNA precursors and siRNAs from double-stranded RNA precursors. Processed by Dicer-like proteins, sRNAs are loaded into ARGONAUTE proteins to form RNA-induced silencing complexes (RISCs) that repress target gene expression through cleavage of transcripts, translation inhibition, or DNA methylation. The sRNA pathway plays important roles in rice interactions with various parasitic organisms, hormone signaling, circular RNAs, and long non-coding RNAs, serving as part of rice innate immunity to coordinate growth and development.
