Evidence for a Window of Enhanced Plasticity in the Human Motor Cortex Following Ischemic Stroke

Brenton Hordacre et al.

Summary: This study found evidence of enhanced synaptic plasticity in the human brain after stroke, with a greater suppression of cortical excitability and motor-evoked potential amplitude in the contralesional hemisphere shortly after stroke. The response to cTBS did not change significantly over a 12-month follow-up period in the ipsilesional hemisphere. Behavioral training during this period may be especially effective in supporting post-stroke recovery.
