Observational Signature of Tightly Wound Spirals Driven by Buoyancy Resonances in Protoplanetary Disks

Jaehan Bae et al.

Summary: This study investigates the spiral structures generated by buoyancy resonances in protoplanetary disks and their detectability through ALMA observations. Gas-dust collisions limit the thermal relaxation in the disk's surface and outer layers, making the use of isothermal equation of state or rapid cooling unjustified. Buoyancy resonances produce vertical motions detectable by ALMA, with observational features proposed to explain the tightly wound spirals observed in TW Hya possibly driven by a planet at 90 au. Non-Keplerian motions driven by buoyancy resonances can be distinguished through observations of multiple lines at different heights with high resolution and sensitivity.
