How to constrain warm dark matter with the Lyman-α forest

Antonella Garzilli et al.

Summary: The flux power spectrum of the high-resolution Lyman-alpha forest data shows suppression at small scales, potentially from warm dark matter or thermal effects related to the unknown reionization history of the Universe. This study explores reionization histories that leave more room for the interpretation of suppression by warm dark matter. Results indicate that thermal relics of WDM with masses below 1.9 keV would produce a suppression at larger scales than observed, demonstrating systematic uncertainty of the Lyman-alpha forest technique.

Constraining reionization in progress at z=5.7 with Lyman-α emitters: voids, peaks, and cosmic variance

Nakul Gangolli et al.

Summary: Several independent observations indicate that the intergalactic medium was significantly neutral at z = 7 and that reionization may still be ongoing at z = 5.7. The SILVERRUSH survey has mapped over 2000 Lyman-alpha emitters at these redshifts. The study re-examines LAE void and peak statistics to constrain reionization and finds that the void probability function (VPF) provides a more sensitive test of models during the latter half of reionization.

Distinguishing AGN from starbursts as the origin of double-peaked Lyman-alpha emitters in the reionization era

Hamsa Padmanabhan et al.

Summary: The researchers discussed the potential origin of double-peaked profiles observed in Lyman-alpha emitters during the epoch of reionization, suggesting they may come from obscured AGN. By comparing the luminosities of AGN with similar quasar samples at these epochs, they estimated the extent of AGN obscuration. Future X-ray, radio, and James Webb Space Telescope observations will be important for testing the contribution of AGN to intergalactic-scale ionization zones of high-redshift LAEs.

Strong Bound on Canonical Ultralight Axion Dark Matter from the Lyman-Alpha Forest

Keir K. Rogers et al.

Summary: By using the Lyman-alpha forest to search for suppressed cosmic structure growth, we present a new lower limit on the ultralight axion (ULA) dark matter mass m(a): m(a) > 2 x 10(-20) eV. This study strongly disfavors the canonical ULA with mass within the range of 10(-22) eV to 10(-21) eV.
