Iron Complexes of Flavonoids-Antioxidant Capacity and Beyond

Zdenek Kejik et al.

Summary: Flavonoids, common plant natural products, can suppress ROS-related damage through chelation of transition metal ions, with iron being the most significant. Their interaction with Fe(II) and Fe(III) ions can significantly affect their biological properties. Special biological effects of their iron metallocomplexes, such as the inhibition of iron-containing enzymes, have been discussed in this review.
