Biotransformation of perfluoroalkyl acid precursors from various environmental systems: advances and perspectives

Wenping Zhang et al.

Summary: Perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) are widely used due to their unique physicochemical properties, but they are environmentally persistent, toxic, and bioaccumulative. Exposure to PFAAs may arise from direct emission or via the environmental release and degradation of PFAA precursors. Studies on the biotransformation of PFAA precursors have shown that it involves the cleavage of carbon-fluorine bonds and degradation of functional groups.

Biotechnological basis of microbial consortia for the removal of pesticides from the environment

Pankaj Bhatt et al.

Summary: Microbial strains as axenic cultures have been widely used in various sectors, with natural environment emphasizing the importance of multi-species consortia over monocultures. Cell signaling and communication pathways are crucial in engineering microbial consortia, where communication occurs through diffusible signal molecules. The lack of knowledge regarding interactions among mixed microbial cultures has hindered their exploration, but recent studies have proposed ideas for studying microbial communities for biotechnological applications. Unique metabolic features of microbes in natural environments are divided among strains within microbial consortia, which exhibit robust performance in pesticide degradation. Additionally, synthetic microbial consortia have shown promise in performing functions at naturally contaminated sites. This review focuses on the applications and future directions of microbial consortia, exploring new platforms and future perspectives while emphasizing the practical application of scientific information.

Binding interaction of glyphosate with glyphosate oxidoreductase and C-P lyase: Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation studies

Pankaj Bhatt et al.

Summary: The widespread use of glyphosate poses a threat to living organisms, but microbes can degrade it with specific enzymes, including glyphosate oxidoreductase and C-P lyase. This study used molecular docking and dynamics simulations to investigate how glyphosate interacts with these enzymes and maintains stability in aqueous environments. The results provide insights into the role of these enzymes in bioremediation of glyphosate.
