Microstructure and mechanical properties in the TLP joint of FeCoNiTiAl and Inconel 718 alloys using BNi2 filler

Summary: The FeCoNiTiAl high entropy alloy (HEA) and Inconel 718 superalloy were successfully transient liquid phase (TLP) bonded using BNi2 filler, with effects of bonding time on microstructure evolution and mechanical properties investigated. Prolonging bonding time resulted in complete isothermal solidification, absence of athermally solidified zones (ASZs), and improved shear strength. The presence of TiB2 borides in the diffusion affected zone (DAZ) near HEA, and reduction of brittle borides or carbides near IN718, contributed to enhancing joint properties.
