Effects of surface energy and surface residual stresses on vibro-thermal analysis of chiral, zigzag, and armchair types of SWCNTs using refined beam theory

Subrat Kumar Jena et al.

Summary: This article investigates the vibration characteristics of three different types of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNTs) while considering the influences of surface energy and surface residual stresses. A refined beam theory, called one-variable shear deformation beam theory, is combined with Hamilton's principle to formulate the governing equations of the proposed model. The size-dependent behavior of the SWCNTs is addressed using Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory.

Free and forced vibration analysis of laminated functionally graded CNT-reinforced composite cylindrical panels

Ali Ghorbanpour Arani et al.

Summary: This paper presents the analysis of free and forced vibrations of multi-layered functionally graded composite cylindrical panels reinforced by single wall carbon nanotubes. The study uses Reddy's theory and numerical methods to investigate the effects of volume fraction, distribution, and orientation of carbon nanotubes on the natural frequencies of the panel as well as the dynamic response. The results can be a valuable tool for dynamic analysis of multilayer carbon nanotube-reinforced structures.

Implementation of Haar wavelet, higher order Haar wavelet, and differential quadrature methods on buckling response of strain gradient nonlocal beam embedded in an elastic medium

Subrat Kumar Jena et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the buckling behavior of strain gradient nonlocal beams on Winkler elastic foundations. By combining the first-order strain gradient model with the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory using Hamilton's principle, the study employs three numerical methods (HWM, HOHWM, and DQM) to analyze buckling characteristics and study the impact of various parameters on critical buckling loads. A comprehensive presentation of the numerical methods and a comparative study on their convergence demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of the methods in analyzing the buckling behavior. The findings of this investigation are properly validated with previous works.

Stability analysis of single-walled carbon nanotubes embedded in winkler foundation placed in a thermal environment considering the surface effect using a new refined beam theory

Subrat Kumar Jena et al.

Summary: This study investigates the stability of different types of SWCNTs in various temperature environments and considers the effects of surface energy and residual stresses. A refined beam theory model is proposed and critical buckling loads are calculated using Navier's method. Parametric study validates the model's effectiveness through various scaling parameters.
