New sedimentological and palynological data from the Yarkand-Fergana Basin (Kyrgyz Tian Shan): Insights on its Mesozoic paleogeographic and tectonic evolution

Julien Morin et al.

Summary: The Talas Fergana/Karatau Fault is a major tectonic boundary separating two domains and played a role in the opening of basins in the Jurassic period. The Yarkand-Fergana Basin development began in the Early to Middle Jurassic under the influence of the fault, leading to extension and widening of the basin. Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous tectonic activity resulted in inversion of the northern Yarkand-Fergana Basin.
