Fundamental Linkage Between Structure, Electrochemical Properties, and Chemical Compositions of LiNi1-x-yMnxCoyO2 Cathode Materials

Jiangtao Hu et al.

Summary: NMC is an important class of high-energy-density cathode materials, and the content difference between Mn and Co can be used as an indicator to estimate Li/TM cation mixing ratio and first-cycle Coulombic efficiency. Additionally, a linear relationship between oxygen position and the size difference between Li+ and TM cation was found, which can accurately predict the oxygen position in NMC materials.

An in-depth understanding of the effect of aluminum doping in high-nickel cathodes for lithium-ion batteries

Kai Zhou et al.

Summary: Increasing the Al content in NCA from 0 to 5.6% gradually improves cycling, air stability, lattice structure, and interphase stability, but going beyond 5.6% leads to adverse effects. A 5.6% Al doping is suggested to be optimal, suppressing adverse effects and enhancing electrode/electrolyte interphases for improved performance.

What is the Role of Nb in Nickel-Rich Layered Oxide Cathodes for Lithium-Ion Batteries?

Fengxia Xin et al.

Summary: Coating and substitution are effective methods to address the capacity loss and stability challenges of nickel-rich layered metal oxide materials in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. This study demonstrates that Li-free Nb oxide treatment can reduce surface impurities, improve rate performance, and stabilize the structure. Nb substitution leads to better long cycling stability with a high capacity retention after 250 cycles.

Microwave-assisted solvothermal synthesis of LiVyM1-yOPO4 (M = Mn, Cr, Ti, Zr, Nb, Mo, W) cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries

Carol Kaplan et al.

Summary: LiVOPO4 (LVP) is a promising next generation multi-electron material with a high theoretical capacity. Low temperature microwave-assisted solvothermal synthesis can produce pure LVP materials with high capacity at fast rates and decent cycle stability, though there may be side reactions during cycling. Substitution with Ti, Nb, and Mo can noticeably improve the electrochemical performance of LVP.
