Racial disparities in treatment and outcomes of children with type 1 diabetes

Terri H. Lipman et al.

Summary: Racial disparities in technology use and diabetes outcomes persist in children with T1D, regardless of insurance status. Pediatric healthcare providers should remain cognizant of racial disparities in diabetes treatment to ensure equitable care. The impact of provider and patient factors should be explored in studying the etiology of these health disparities.

Provocative growth hormone testing in children: how did we get here and where do we go now?

Camilia Kamoun et al.

Summary: Provocative growth hormone (GH) tests are commonly used for diagnosing pediatric GH deficiency (GHD), but their limited sensitivity and specificity, as well as the appropriateness of commonly used cutoff values, are questionable. Despite the need for new diagnostic modalities, there has been limited progress in improving these tests. Clinicians can enhance the clinical application of provocative GH tests by considering multiple factors that influence the results.

Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Rates of Continuous Glucose Monitor Initiation and Continued Use in Children With Type 1 Diabetes

Charlene W. Lai et al.

Summary: Racial/ethnic disparities exist in continuous glucose monitor (CGM) use among children with type 1 diabetes. The study found that lower CGM use in non-Hispanic Black children was due to lower rates of device initiation and higher rates of discontinuation. Interventions are needed to address both of these barriers in order to reduce disparities in CGM use.
