A three-component reaction involving arynes, trialkyl phosphites, and halides has been achieved under mild reaction conditions, providing a direct synthetic approach to ortho-halogenated arylphosphonates which can be rapidly converted to diversely ortho-functionalized arylphosphorus compounds.
