Exploring novel functionality for efficient extraction of UO22+ and Th4+ in ionic liquid: Mechanism, speciation, selectivity, stability and stripping

Amit Pandey et al.

Summary: A novel ligand was explored for efficient and selective separation of UO22+ and Th4+ in an ionic liquid system. The extraction process proceeded mainly via 'solvation' mechanism, with endothermic, spontaneous, and entropy-driven characteristics in the ionic liquid. The ionic liquid exhibited high radiation stability due to the formation of resonance-stabilized aromatic cations and restricted movement of radicals.

Understanding the extraction behaviour of UO22+ and Th4+ using novel picolinamide/N-oxo picolinamide in ionic liquid: A comparative evaluation with molecular diluent

Debasish Das et al.

Summary: The manuscript discusses the efficient separation of hexavalent UO22+ and tetravalent Th4+ from aqueous acidic waste solution using ionic liquid with novel ligands. It demonstrates that in the ionic liquid, a 'cation exchange' mechanism prevails, while in n-dodecane based systems, a 'solvation' mechanism is dominant. The extractive mass transfer processes are found to be spontaneous, endothermic and entropically driven in nature. Ionic liquid based solvent systems exhibit higher radiolytic stability compared to molecular diluent.

A Comprehensive Investigation alongwith the Statistical Evaluation for the Characterization of Ilmenite Mineral by X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry and Optical Emission Spectrometry

Jayabun Sk et al.

Summary: The comparative investigation on characterization of ilmenite manuscript was conducted using EDXRF and D.C. Arc AES, with statistical evaluation showing reliable data within the limit of statistical fluctuation obtained by both methods. The developed methodologies were validated using synthetic samples, with total uncertainty associated with the methodology for characterization of base reference materials evaluated.
