Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (BARS-CoV)-2 infection induces dysregulation of immunity: in silico gene expression analysis

Yen-Hung Wu et al.

Summary: This study utilized a holistic bioinformatics approach to explore gene signature alterations in SARS-CoV-2-infected lung epithelial cells, identifying enrichment of genes associated with immune-related pathways, host cell responses, steroid hormone biosynthesis, receptor signaling, and the complement system. Dysregulation of the immune system and interferon malfunction contribute to the failure to eliminate SARS-CoV-2 and worsen respiratory distress in severely ill patients, highlighting the importance of understanding the genetic targets for this infection.
