Optical Amplifier Response Estimation Considering Non-Flat Input Signals Characterization Based on Artificial Neural Networks

Erick de Andrade Barboza et al.

Summary: This study proposed models based on artificial neural network to estimate the optical amplifier output signal considering non-flat signals. Results showed that previous models designed for flat characterization data did not perform well with non-flat data, while the new models returned a smaller estimation error. The new models demonstrated a 4 dB error reduction compared to the previous models under certain circumstances, and were robust even with limited non-flat data in the training process.
