A 20-Year Analysis of Disturbance-Driven Rainfall on O'ahu, Hawai'i

Ryan J. Longman et al.

Summary: The study found that four types of atmospheric disturbances have a significant impact on rainfall on the Island of O'ahu, Hawaii, with cold fronts being the most common disturbance type. The intensity of disturbance rainfall is a stronger predictor of total seasonal rainfall than the frequency of occurrence. The frequency and rainfall intensity of kona low events are the primary factors influencing whether a season/year on O'ahu is relatively wet or dry.
