Degradation of diclofenac by new bacterial strains and its influence on the physiological status of cells

Joanna Zur et al.

Summary: Diclofenac (DCF) is a commonly used NSAID known to pose an ecological threat. This study isolated four new bacterial strains capable of degrading DCF, finding that removal effectiveness varies by strain and the addition of primary substrate may not always be beneficial. DCF induced membrane structure changes in bacterial cells leading to oxidative stress.

Persistence, toxicological effect and ecological issues of endosulfan-A review

Palanivel Sathishkumar et al.

Summary: Endosulfan, classified as a persistent organic pollutant (POP) in the Stockholm Convention and phased out globally, has been found to have a persistent presence and biomagnification potential in the ecosystem, posing potential risks to living organisms including humans. Its distribution in the ecosystem indicates historical and recent inputs, and its toxicity can intensify when interacting with other chemicals, impacting various non-target species negatively.

Diclofenac modified the root system architecture of Arabidopsis via interfering with the hormonal activities of auxin

Min Cho et al.

Summary: Diclofenac, a pharmaceutical and personal care product, is accumulating in various environmental matrices worldwide. It has been shown to modify the root development of Arabidopsis thaliana by interfering with the activities of natural auxin. These results suggest that diclofenac could potentially act as an environmental contaminant disturbing the natural developmental processes of plants.
