Effect of Fe2+ ions on gypsum precipitation during bulk crystallization of reverse osmosis concentrates

Emna Melliti et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mixed precipitation of gypsum and iron oxides during reverse osmosis desalination, and examines the role of citric acid in inhibiting precipitation. The presence of Fe2+ ions accelerates gypsum precipitation, while citric acid delays the induction time and affects the crystal morphology. XDR analysis reveals that citric acid stabilizes the bassanite phase for longer periods and minimizes the acceleration effect of Fe2+ ions on calcium sulfate precipitation.

Applicability of TiO2(B) nanosheets@hydrochar composites for adsorption of tetracycline (TC) from contaminated water

Zhu Mengting et al.

Summary: The study shows that converting wheat straw into hydrochar and functionalizing its surface with TiO2(B) as a composite has added value as an adsorbent for wastewater treatment. Among the composites tested, Composite-4 showed the highest TC removal rate of 93% under conditions of pH 7, dosage of 1 g/L, reaction time of 4 hours, and TC concentration of 50 mg/L.

Two-dimension N-doped nanoporous carbon from KCl thermal exfoliation of Zn-ZIF-L: E ffi cient adsorption for tetracycline and optimizing of response surface model

Haihao Peng et al.

Summary: N-doped nanoporous carbon derived from Zn-ZIF-L via KCl exfoliation and carbonization exhibited effective N atom doping, low degree of graphitization, and high defects, resulting in enhanced adsorption capacity. The NC-800 showed fast and efficient adsorption of TC with a maximum adsorption capacity of 347.06 mg g(-1), and could maintain high adsorption levels after four cycles, making it a promising adsorbent for water treatment applications.

Effect of carbonization methods on the properties of tea waste biochars and their application in tetracycline removal from aqueous solutions

Bin Li et al.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of different carbonation methods on the properties and adsorption performance of biochars, finding that the combination of hydrothermal treatment with KHCO3 activation significantly increases the surface area and pore structure of biochar. In terms of adsorbing tetracycline, KHCO3-activated BCs exhibited higher adsorption capacity, with the dominant mechanisms being pore-filling effect and pi - pi interactions.

Hierarchical porous boron nitride with boron vacancies for improved adsorption performance to antibiotics

Yanhong Chao et al.

Summary: The hierarchical porous boron nitride nanosheets with boron vacancies (Bv-BNNSs) were synthesized via a one-step ZnCl2-assisted strategy, resulting in controllable tuning of morphological and electronic structures and a specific surface area as high as 1104 m(2)/g. The sorption capacity was boosted by 38% due to the pi-pi interaction mechanism. DFT calculations verified the enhanced interaction energy between Bv-BNNSs and tetracycline, indicating great potential in practical wastewater treatment.

Effect of Fe-N modification on the properties of biochars and their adsorption behavior on tetracycline removal from aqueous solution

Yanglu Mei et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Fe-N modified biochar produced by mixing rice straw with FeCl3·6H2O and urea showed enhanced adsorption capacity for TC due to the presence of more functional groups and increased surface area and pore volume. The adsorption mechanism of TC on Fe-N-RSBC involved pore filling, hydrogen-bond interaction, surface complexation, and pi-pi interaction. Fe-N-RSBC can be effectively used as an adsorbent for TC removal from aqueous solution.
