This study reports the synthesis and characterization of the first trifluoromethylated (eta(6)-arene) transition-metal complex, which holds great potential for important theoretical and industrial applications in various chemical reactions.
While the chemistry literature reports the synthesis and characterization of a plethora of eta(6)-arene methylated metal complexes, as well as their utilization in important theoretical and industrial applications such as olefin polymerization and C-H activation, there are currently no reports on the synthesis of analogous eta(6)-arene trifluoromethylated metal complexes. Such compounds could also be utilized for analogous chemical applications such as C-F activation, stabilization of high metal oxidation states or find utility as CF3 transfer agents. This work reports the synthesis and characterization in 90 % yield of the complex (eta(6)-C6Me6)Ru(PMe3)(CF3)(2), which constitutes the first trifluoromethylated (eta(6)-arene)transition-metal complex.
