Discrimination of Methanol from Ethanol in Gasoline Using a Membrane-type Surface Stress Sensor Coated with Copper(I) Complex

Michihiro Nishikawa et al.

Summary: A novel sensing platform utilizing a copper(I) complex with specific ligands has been successfully fabricated for the detection of volatile organic compounds. The sensor devices showed selective responses to methanol and could clearly discriminate methanol contaminants in different mixture samples. These research results will contribute to addressing the common issue of methanol contamination in gasoline and related petroleum samples.

Effects of partial attachment at the interface between receptor and substrate on nanomechanical cantilever sensing

Kosuke Minami et al.

Summary: This study presents numerical simulations of the interfacial structures for the static deflection of a nanomechanical cantilever sensor, analyzing a wide range of physical and structural parameters while considering practical conditions. The comprehensive analyses confirm the important requirements for effective transduction of stress through interfacial structures, including both partial and full attachments, with some partially attached structures even enhancing cantilever deflection.
