Co-pyrolysis of coal and raw/torrefied biomass: A review on chemistry, kinetics and implementation

S. M. Gouws et al.

Summary: Thermochemical conversion via co-pyrolysis has the potential to efficiently convert biomass to bio-energy and bio-refinery products. Torrefied biomass prior to co-pyrolysis shows fundamental advantages such as decreased limitations and improved oil quality, making it a promising option for bioenergy production.

ReaxFF simulations of the synergistic effect mechanisms during co-pyrolysis of coal and polyethylene/polystyrene

Dikun Hong et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the co-pyrolysis behaviors of Zhundong coal with polyethylene (PE) and polystyrene (PS) using reactive molecular dynamics simulation. The results show that coal promotes primary decomposition of PE at low temperatures but has little effect on PE pyrolysis at high temperatures. Meanwhile, PE and PS significantly promote coal char decomposition at high temperatures, with polystyrene having a more pronounced effect than polyethylene.
