The crystallization enthalpy and entropy of protein solutions: microcalorimetry, van't Hoff determination and linearized Poisson-Boltzmann model of tetragonal lysozyme crystals

Lorena Hentschel et al.

Summary: This study experimentally determined and theoretically analyzed the dependence of the molar crystallization enthalpy of lysozyme solutions on physicochemical solution parameters. The results were obtained through isothermal microcalorimetry and van't Hoff analysis, showing a two-state crystallization process with the enthalpy value negatively correlated with thermal energy per molecule. Additionally, the molar crystallization entropy was analyzed, with a model capturing the dependence of van't Hoff entropy on salt concentration and pH, complementing the analysis of crystallization thermodynamics.
