Plasma tissue plasminogen activator and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 in hospitalized COVID-19 patients

Yu Zuo et al.

Summary: COVID-19 patients have elevated levels of tPA and PAI-1 in plasma, which are correlated with neutrophil counts and respiratory status. Particularly high levels of tPA are strongly associated with mortality and enhanced fibrinolysis, suggesting a subset of patients may have a favorable balance of factors for fibrinolysis. Further investigation into tPA as a biomarker is warranted.

ACE2/Ang-(1-7)/Mas1 axis and the vascular system vasoprotection to COVID-19-associated vascular disease

Jithin Kuriakose et al.

Summary: ACE2 is a crucial protein in the renin-angiotensin system, responsible for regulating vascular tone and serving as the receptor for SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2. It plays a significant role in cardiovascular health and disease, potentially acting as a key mediator of vascular injury in COVID-19.

Leukocyte trafficking to the lungs and beyond: lessons from influenza for COVID-19

Ronen Alon et al.

Summary: The understanding of COVID-19 clinical manifestations requires knowledge of how immune cells are recruited to virus-infected lungs and how this recruitment varies among individuals. The orchestration of leukocyte trafficking to respiratory system is controlled by specific molecules, which can lead to pathological complications when uncontrolled. The incomplete understanding of trafficking signals in response to SARS-CoV-2 infection calls for further research for potential therapeutic interventions.
