Heritable pattern of oxidized DNA base repair coincides with pre-targeting of repair complexes to open chromatin

Albino Bacolla et al.

Summary: The study found that acetylated NEIL1 is predominantly localized in the nucleus in association with epigenetic marks of uncondensed chromatin. Chromatin immunoprecipitation followed by high-throughput sequencing revealed that AcNEIL1 binding is related to the transcription level of genes. Bioinformatic analysis showed a significant correspondence between AcNEIL1 occupancy along the genome and mutation rates.
