The effect of aging and antioxidants on photoreactivity and phototoxicity of human melanosomes: An in vitro study

Magdalena M. Olchawa et al.

Summary: The study suggests that melanin in the retinal pigment epithelium may lose some antioxidant and photoprotective properties with aging. However, the phototoxic potential of melanin could be reduced by enriching them with antioxidants, especially in older individuals.
