Narrowband Magnetosonic Waves Near the Lower Hybrid Resonance Frequency in the Inner Magnetosphere: Wave Properties and Excitation Conditions

Zhihai Ouyang et al.

Summary: The study found that narrowband fast magnetosonic waves near the lower hybrid resonance frequency are excited through linear instabilities, with central frequencies around 0.7f(LHR). These waves are mainly observed in the dayside and dusk sectors outside the plasmapause. Energetic protons observed simultaneously show that the ratios of ring speed to Alfven speed mainly fall into the range of 0.8 V-r/V-A < 1, confirming the preferred conditions for excitations of narrowband MS waves near f(LHR).
