The 2020 Mw 6.0 Jiashi Earthquake: A Fold Earthquake Event in the Southern Tian Shan, Northwest China

Yuan Yao et al.

Summary: The study reveals the seismogenic structure of the Jiashi earthquake in the Kepingtage fold-and-thrust belt through integrated analysis of surface geology, topography, seismic reflection profiles, and Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar data. The event was characterized by horizontal compression deformation concentrated at a depth of 4-6 km with a fault-slip angle of approximately 15 degrees. This earthquake is a good example of why the Kepingtage FTB typically experiences moderate-magnitude seismic events.
