Summary: This article discusses the possibility of pathogen transmission through breastfeeding during infectious disease outbreaks, especially when associated with novel pathogens. The importance of conducting scientific research to assess pathogen transmission pathways is emphasized, along with outlining best practices for collecting, handling, and analyzing milk in such situations.

Prenatal Androgen Effects as a Proximate Mechanism Underpinning Variation in Social Behavior Among Female Nonhuman Primates

Caroline Howlett et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between prenatal androgen effects (PAEs) as indicated by the 2D:4D ratio and social behavior in female nonhuman primates. The study found that the 2D:4D ratio was highest in monogamous species and lowest in polygynandrous and polygynous species, and varied with the form of polygyny/polygynandry. Female-dominated species had lower 2D:4D ratios compared to male-dominated or codominant species.
