Prevalence and impact of pre-pregnancy body mass index on pregnancy outcome: a cross-sectional study in Croatia

Katja Vince et al.

Summary: This study in Croatia found that overweight and obese pregnant women had higher rates of induction of labor and delivery by caesarean section compared to normal-BMI women, while underweight and obese women had higher rates of preterm birth. Overweight and obese women also had a higher prevalence of gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, and preeclampsia. Older maternal age, higher BMI, gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, and preeclampsia were significant predictors of non-spontaneous onset of labor and not delivering vaginally.

Pre-pregnancy obesity and risk of congenital abnormalities of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT)-systematic review, meta-analysis and ecological study

Lyda Jadresic et al.

Summary: The study found a positive association between maternal obesity and the risk of congenital abnormalities of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT), particularly in cases of congenital hydronephrosis and multicystic kidney dysplasia. This suggests a potential link between pre-pregnancy obesity and increased risk of CAKUT at the population level.
