Longitudinal high-throughput TCR repertoire profiling reveals the dynamics of T-cell memory formation after mild COVID-19 infection

Anastasia A. Minervina et al.

Summary: This study tracked changes in the T-cell repertoire of two mild COVID-19 cases and found transient clonal expansion of T-cell clones post-infection. The research revealed characteristic motifs in TCR sequences of COVID-19-reactive clones, with a preferential occurrence in publicly available datasets. Additionally, the study showed that the majority of infection-reactive clonotypes acquire memory phenotypes, indicating the potential involvement of pre-existing cross-reactive memory T cells in the immune response to SARS-CoV-2.

IL-6 in inflammation, autoimmunity and cancer

Toshio Hirano

Summary: IL-6 is involved in various physiological processes including immune responses and inflammation. It plays a crucial role in chronic inflammation and cytokine storms, such as seen in COVID-19. The IL-6 amplifier, involving NF-kappa B and STAT3, is a key mechanism in promoting uncontrolled inflammatory responses.

Characterization of pre-existing and induced SARS-CoV-2-specific CD8+ T cells

Isabel Schulien et al.

Summary: The study found that SARS-CoV-2 infection induces and forms functionally competent memory CD8(+) T cell responses, which can persist in some SARS-CoV-2 convalescent individuals. Even in the absence of virus-specific antibodies, these virus epitope-specific CD8(+) T cell responses are induced following infection.
