Dorsal muscle fatigue increases thoracic spine curvature in all-out recreational ergometer rowing

Steffen Willwacher et al.

Summary: The study found significant changes in spine curvature and peak moments during a 2000 m rowing performance, but no significant changes in EMG amplitudes. The significant increase in thoracic spine curvature may be related to fatigued back muscles, which could lead to an unbalanced loading of intervertebral discs and other structures, increasing the risk of injury.
