Cortical Hemodynamic Response Associated with Spatial Coding: A Near-Infrared Spectroscopy Study

Abiot Y. Derbie et al.

Summary: The study examined allocentric (aSC) and egocentric (eSC) spatial coding using a fine-grained cue-to-target paradigm, revealing significant changes in oxygenated hemoglobin concentration in the right inferior parietal lobule and post-central gyrus regions. Cortical activities in both conditions were predominantly over the right parieto-frontal areas, with top-down attention processes common to both types of spatial coding. Unique changes to aSC were observed in clusters over the right intraparietal sulcus, right temporo-parietal junction, and left IPL, indicating differences in orienting attention and response selection processes between aSC and eSC.
