Essential Roles of Two FRQ Proteins (Frq1 and Frq2) in Beauveria bassiana's Virulence, Infection Cycle, and Calcofluor-Specific Signaling

Sen-Miao Tong et al.

Summary: Two FRQ proteins, Frq1 and Frq2, play essential roles in sustaining fungal virulence and infection cycle, with Frq2 being more important. Deletion of either frq1 or frq2 leads to marked delay of lethal action against insects and drastic reduction of conidial yield. The mutants also exhibit hypersensitivity and high resistance to cell wall perturbation, with hypo- and hyperphosphorylated MAPK/Slt2 signals in calcofluor white-triggered cells.
